Spring 2026 Active Fund Grantees Announced

Congratulations to the 141 individuals who received over $420,000 through the Active Fund this cycle! Thank you to our generous donors, our Board of Directors for their matching support, and our partners at the Craig Hospital Foundation and Endless Highway for helping make adaptive recreation more accessible for individuals with SCI.
This cycle, we awarded equipment grants to 112 individuals and Try It First Grants to 29 individuals, who will receive $500 to test out equipment to make sure it’s the right fit before applying again.
“I am beyond excited about this grant. Staying active has been central to my recovery and my identity, and this opens a door I have been working hard to reach. I am equally excited to be part of a community that genuinely gets it.”
This cycle continues to celebrate the unique recreation goals of each person in the KBF community, helping a 12-year-old purchase an all-terrain chair and a 64-year-old purchase a mountain bike.
For nearly half of the grantees this cycle, this is their first-ever piece of adaptive sports equipment. Some grantees have had their injuries for as little as 6 months and as long as 48 years.
“Receiving an adaptive bicycle means much more than just having a piece of equipment. It represents freedom, independence, and the opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities that might otherwise be difficult to access. Being able to ride will help me stay active, improve my physical and mental well-being, and spend quality time with family and friends while enjoying the outdoors.”
Awards went to individuals in 40 states from coast to coast, even including Hawaii.
“Thanks so much! I’m looking forward to using the grant to get back on the trails I love. I never thought it was possible until now.”
“I am so excited to receive this grant as it will help ease the burden of finances through getting my own rugby chair! I am currently using our program chair, and having my own will significantly improve my confidence off the court as I’ll be able to train outside practice times. Thank you so much!!”
“I’m so excited about being able to get outside and be so much more active, especially with my kids!! This grant means so much more than that though. It gives me a part of my old normal life back, before getting paralyzed. I’m super stoked about this, it’s unbelievable!!”
